Emergency ration bars are compressed, ready to eat food that stores for years without a fridge. NRG-5 and Seven Oceans come in sealed foil packs that survive being carried in a bag, a car or a boat. Count on 2,000 to 2,500 kcal per adult per day, which is roughly one pack.

Pick your ration bars on storage life and on where they will sit. NRG-5 is built for long term storage and is the one to choose if the pack stays untouched in a cupboard for years. Seven Oceans is the classic lifeboat ration, with a shorter life and a plain taste. Count roughly one pack per adult per day and store everything cool, dry and out of the light. Write the expiry date somewhere you will actually see it so you can rotate in time. For hot food as well, add long shelf life food and a camping stove.
Frequently asked questions
It depends on the type. Bars made for long storage such as NRG-5 keep for around fifteen years, while Seven Oceans is closer to five. The date printed on the pack is what counts. Store them cool, dry and dark.
