Home battery storage keeps the electricity your panels produce around midday so you can use it yourself in the evening instead of exporting it. Prepz carries two kinds: plug-in and balcony batteries you install yourself behind a socket or a balcony array, and larger modular systems you expand one module at a time. Look at usable capacity in kilowatt-hours, charge and discharge power, and whether the system can keep supplying during a grid outage. Anything wired into the consumer unit is a job for a qualified installer.

Start from your evening consumption, not from the biggest battery. Work out how many kilowatt-hours you use between sunset and the next morning; for many households that is a few kilowatt-hours. A battery sized roughly to that figure fills and empties every day, which is exactly what you want. If you also want lighting, internet and a heating pump during an outage, choose a system with a backup output and check how much power that output delivers. Plug-in models are the quickest step and move house with you, while modular systems cost more per module but grow with your usage. If the wiring is unclear, involve an installer.
