- Drinking water
Allow 3 litres per person per day: 9 litres for three days. Plan separately for your pets' water needs.
- Food that suits your household
Choose long-life food and keep a tin opener ready if needed. Include food you can eat without heating.
- Lighting and information
Check your torch, batteries, radio and charged powerbank. Keep important phone numbers on paper.
- Care, hygiene and warmth
Keep first aid supplies, hygiene items and blankets in an accessible place everyone knows.
- Personal essentials
Think about baby food, medicines and pets' needs. If someone has particular care needs, make arrangements with their healthcare provider in advance.
- Documents, keys and cash
Store important numbers, copies of identity documents and spare keys carefully with your emergency supplies. Include cash in case electronic payments are unavailable.
- Check together
Discuss the emergency plan and check every six months that your supplies are complete, usable and within their shelf life.
Use this list as a starting point. In an emergency, always follow instructions from the authorities.
